Our Commitment to Safeguarding
At Early Years Insights, we believe that every child has the right to grow up in a safe, secure, nurturing, and supportive environment where they are valued, respected, and protected from harm.
We are committed to promoting safeguarding awareness and supporting early years practitioners, educators, childminders, students, and parents by providing high-quality resources, guidance, and professional learning opportunities.
The welfare and safety of children remain at the heart of everything we promote.
Our Safeguarding Principles
We encourage all adults working with children to:
- Place the child’s welfare and best interests at the centre of all decisions.
- Create safe, inclusive, and respectful learning environments.
- Listen to children and take their views, wishes, and feelings seriously.
- Recognise the signs and indicators of abuse, neglect, and harm.
- Respond appropriately to safeguarding concerns.
- Work in partnership with families and other professionals.
- Maintain professional curiosity and vigilance.
Understanding Safeguarding
Safeguarding involves protecting children from harm and promoting their health, development, and wellbeing.
This includes awareness of:
Physical Abuse
Deliberately causing physical harm to a child, including hitting, shaking, burning, or any action that causes injury.
Emotional Abuse
Persistent emotional maltreatment that may affect a child’s emotional development, self-esteem, confidence, and sense of safety.
Sexual Abuse
Forcing or encouraging a child to take part in sexual activities, whether or not the child understands what is happening.
Neglect
The persistent failure to meet a child’s basic physical and emotional needs, including inadequate supervision, nutrition, healthcare, clothing, or emotional support.
Domestic Abuse
Children may be affected by witnessing or experiencing domestic abuse within the home environment, which can impact their safety, emotional wellbeing, and development.
Online Safety
Children must be protected from risks associated with digital technology, including inappropriate content, online exploitation, and unsafe online interactions.
Recognising and Responding to Concerns
Everyone who works with or supports children has a responsibility to remain alert to safeguarding concerns.
If a child makes a disclosure or you become concerned about a child’s safety, it is important to:
- Stay calm and listen carefully.
- Take what the child says seriously.
- Reassure the child that they have done the right thing by speaking out.
- Avoid asking leading questions or making promises you cannot keep.
- Record information accurately and factually.
- Report concerns immediately following your organisation’s safeguarding procedures.
Important Safeguarding Notice
The information and resources provided by Early Years Insights are intended to support safeguarding awareness, knowledge, and professional development.
They do not replace:
- Your setting’s safeguarding and child protection policies.
- The advice and decisions of your Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL).
- Local safeguarding partnership procedures.
- Statutory safeguarding responsibilities or professional training.
All practitioners must follow the safeguarding procedures established by their employer, local authority, and relevant safeguarding agencies.
If a Child Is in Immediate Danger
If you believe a child is in immediate danger or at risk of significant harm:
- Contact emergency services by calling 999.
- Follow your organisation’s emergency safeguarding procedures.
- Contact the appropriate local authority children’s social care services.
The safety and wellbeing of the child must always be the highest priority.
Equality, Inclusion and SEND
We believe that safeguarding applies to every child, including children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND).
Children with additional needs may face increased vulnerability to abuse or neglect and may require additional support to communicate their wishes, feelings, and concerns.
We promote inclusive practices where every child is respected, supported, and given equal opportunities to learn, develop, and thrive.
Keeping Safeguarding Information Up to Date
Safeguarding guidance and legislation may change over time. We regularly review our resources to ensure they remain accurate, relevant, and aligned with current good practice.
Users should always refer to the latest statutory guidance, including Working Together to Safeguard Children, the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) statutory framework, and their local safeguarding procedures.
